ARTEMIS: Advancing addiction research and treatment through engagement with rural marylanders impacted by polysubstance use

ARTEMIS is an innovative, multidisciplinary collaboration centering on people with lived experience to improve the quality of and access to substance use disorder care in rural settings.

This 5-year project is a collaboration between the University of Maryland School of Medicine, in Baltimore, and the Center for Substance Use, Addiction & Health Research (CESAR) based in College Park.

We are shaping the future of research and care for polysubstance use through shared learning, collaboration, and innovation. Read more here.

In the qualitative portion of study, our team examines the experiences of people who have lived or living experiences with drug use and their perspectives on treatment access and care experiences in rural Maryland. We recruit people in rural contexts throughout Maryland and conduct qualitative interviews in community spaces to understand the barriers to care for polysubstance use in the areas people are from and the unique challenges that they face in rural areas.
